Food For Fines!

The library was again successful in collecting food for fines this year. We took in a total of 85 items to donate to the local food pantry for Christmas baskets for local families. October 2015

2 – Friends of the Library Meeting @ 10:00 AM

Summer Reading Program

We had another successful Summer Reading Program this year. We hosted more than 25 kids this year and promoted literacy in a time when kids tend to not even think about reading. Our sponsors have helped us in our pursuit of providing not only story times, crafts and snacks to classes in 5 ages groups but also to provide prizes and positive year round reinforcement of literacy to so many local children. Thanks to all of our sponsors for another successful year!

The Friends of the Library held a Back to School Bash for local kids to end the summer with some fun. There were free hot dogs, popcorn, snow cones and carnival games. Entertainment was provided by Silly Jilly the Clown. Silly Jilly is a clown, illusionist, and creator of balloon animals. The party lasted from 11:00 am til 2:00 pm Friday August 7th and was a big success. A ton of Fun was had by all! The Friends of the Library do fund raising throughout the year in support of the library and its patrons. They host Trivia Night Annually and hold book sales so they can help the library purchase e-books, audio books, and items the library might not otherwise be able to afford. If you would like to join the friends or if you have a spectacular fund raising idea, the next Friends meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 2nd at 10:00 am here at the library. Please feel free to join us!

Racing to Read Grant

The Bonne Terre Memorial Library has been awarded the Missouri State Library’s Racing to Read Grant. This grant, to promote early literacy and develop our early preschool reading collection, gave the library the funding to purchase over 200 new books that promote early literacy. This grant included easy readers, board books and children’s fiction books. You can find these books on display at the library in the children’s section.

September is the American Library Association’s annual Library Card Sign-up Month. Throughout the entire month of September, in order to promote patronage, our library will waive our out of town fee for first time users. If you live in the city limits of Bonne Terre your card is already free because we are a city run library, so come get one! If you live outside of the city limits and don’t already have a library card, take advantage of this offer to get your 1st year free!
